Kevin Yount

Faveur is Proud to introduce Kevin Yount as the Newest sponsored athlete and part of the Faveur Crew. Kevin is from Maiden, NC and has been Riverboarding for 4 years. Kevin was that wiry, skinny kid that everyone knows at least one of; the type always looking for something to keep them busy, whether it was reading, day dreaming, or playing outside, they always need something to do. It was only natural that someone like that would get into downhill sports such as mountain biking and snow sports, and also bodyboarding. He first heard about riverboarding in a snowboard magazine of all places, and years later heard a fellow camp counselor mention it. "It sounded exciting and dangerous, and I wanted to try it", he says. Most of the riverboarders at the time lived in the Rockies and on the west coast, and the few boarders on the east coast weren't organized in a group. Kevin continued looking for information and asking question on bodyboarding forums. Finally by 2003, he had pieced together enough information to buy a pfd and fins, rent a wetsuit, and use a snow helmet along with his ocean bodyboard, and him and a friend jumped into the French Broad river just outside of Asheville, NC. He was hooked and kept on progressing through benchmark whitewater runs in the southeast, working his way up to boarding class V whitewater, and also becoming a sales rep for a riverboard manufacturer as a side job. Then just as soon as he had gotten started, he felt restless, and after some soul searching decided to spend a few years in Asia, living in another culture and studying language. He left his board at home to avoid the distraction, then took a vacation to New Zealand for a week in 2006 where he experienced the bountiful whitewater there and met some boarders from the west coast who had accepted his invitation to travel and riverboard. In 2007 while still in Asia, he was selected to join Facelevel Industries' team of extreme athletes. Arriving home at the end of October, 2007, Kevin can't wait to tear it up on the east coast as soon as the water starts running; with his goals for the upcoming year being to pioneer as many new runs as possible, organize an east coast competition series, and restore riverboarding access on the Tallulah river.
